Please fill in the survey, even if you have never been to the Wookey Hole caves.
In a cavern , a robe wearing โholy clerkโ holds out a crucifix to a witch, presumably prior to turning her into stone.
13 THE WITCH OF WOOKEY (Wookey Hole, Somerset) Deep in the dark caverns of Wookey Hole dwelt at one time the Witch of Wookey-and dwells there still, if the gossips are to be trusted, though she, her pots and pans and horrid "familiars," are all turned to stone. A chagrined and disappointed woman, she used her merciless arts to blight girls' lives and keep them from the joys denied to herself. But she reckoned without a certain Holy Clerk of Glastonbury! With his Good Book he exorcised the Witch, and turned her to stone; he then cleansed from all evil the dreadful cavern.

Hi! I'm currently conducting some research on the Witch of the Wookey Hole for my MA in Folklore studies. It would be really great if you could fill in the survey.

So good they named it thrice.
"With the combination of the Welsh word and the Anglo-Saxon word for cave, the name Wookey Hole Caves literally means โCave, Cave, Caves".

Interesting, as less than eight miles away from Glastonbury here in the UK is Wookey Hole, where rocks form the profile of a witch who was said to have once lived there. www.wookey.co.uk/wookey-witch/

Still one of my very favourite books to work on and perfect for today's #FolkloreThursday theme - Treasury of Folklore: Seas and Rivers. Packed full of fabulous sea-lore and tales, and can we take a moment to appreciate the stunning cover by Joe McLaren?
