I had nightmares about a play we read in elementary school called 'My Brother Sam is Dead'. This was during the Bicentennial years, so Revolutionary War stuff was big. The play featured British soldiers executing Sam. The gunshots caught his clothing on fire, and his legs flailed as he lay dying.

I believe the point of his dark comment is that intelligent people choose to vaccinate their children, passing their genes on. When vaccinations are mandated, the choice is removed from the equation, and all children are more likely to survive.

That indelible scene was the reason the Principal of my high school made my 11th-grade English teacher remove it from the reading list 😒

My parents never paid attention to what I was reading, and I read constantly. I think part of it was they had no idea of all the things that were possible for me to obtain, but perhaps I underestimate them.
