Crackers with fig jam and goat cheese (to represent our love interestβs history with one another) Roasted carrots and potatoes. (for a medieval slant, and for the royal purple hue for our FMC) Red flowers made out of chorizo, white roses out of provolone, and rosebuds/small flowers made of colby jack. (cause flowers are a thing in this book and charcuterie should have meat and cheese) Assorted fruit: blueberries, grapes, tangerine butterflies, strawberries (because the mages of this universe must consume fruit to recover when they do a lot of magic).

07.07.2025 20:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love this question! Years ago, I tried cowriting with a romantic partner who wasn't really into writing to begin with and just wanted to turn everything into erotic roleplay. I don't even write erotica! I'm never cowriting with someone whose vision doesn't align with mine again.

You are in control of how time works in a scene. This is a great power, but also a great responsibility. If your characters sit down for a five minute conversation and have a chat that would normally last over an hour, your readers are going to notice.

It's a common conspiracy theory to claim "big pharma" is bribing medical professionals, but the standard of care in many European countries is similar, and "big pharma" wouldn't benefit from that. Massive amounts of peer-reviewed studies support evidence-based medical transition

I agree with this! A common one I see is people adding emotion tags to dialogue that already clearly conveys the emotion. Like:
"I hate you!" she said angrily.
Yeah, that makes more sense because it actually can be optimized. Even if some people respond differently, the purpose of advertising isn't to express a particular feeling from the author; it's to generate sales. And you can optimize for a maximum amount of sales
25.05.2025 12:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There's also a bit of game theory involved. A certain amount of familiarity with a theme or concept or style can enhance the experience, but if the market gets inundated with a certain element, people get tired of it. So "good writing" is constantly changing
25.05.2025 12:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Different people have different favorite authors because everyone has different preferences for tone, prose style, tropes, themes, comedy, balance, etc.
It's not like chess, where there can be one objectively best move. There's no objective "best" for writing
Lengthy, Charles Dickens-style prose used to be considered ideal, but now most people prefer concise writing. But many don't!
The "chosen one" was seen as a timeless trope in the 90s and 00s-- until people got sick of it. But some people still love it.
That's the tricky part-- with writing, there is no "best" response. Every reader will respond a little differently, and even that response changes over time.
There's definitely "worse" and "better" and sometimes prose fails to convey what an author wants to convey. But there's no single "best"
That's why I'm not impressed with LLMs for writing. Machine learning is capable of so many amazing things, but the tech we're building now doesn't lend itself to the type of creativity that creates the kind of innovative, transformative experience most people want. It's the wrong tool for the job
25.05.2025 12:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean... somewhat. I'd argue that writing is qualitatively different from something like chess because there's no one "best" way to do it. Different people have different tastes, genres and tropes fall in and out of style, and most people prefer to see novelty and even some rough edges in art.
25.05.2025 12:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0That's awesome! Sometimes I also have to stop and figure out how to write things
25.05.2025 12:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0LLM-generated prose tends to read like a college sophomore trying to sound "academic" or "writerly". At best, it often sounds like a Redditor.
If you really want to write something that's uniquely YOU, the best approach is still to do the work and develop your own writing voice. There's no shortcut
Watching three separate LLMs spit out nearly identical responses to creative questions is revealing.
Well-trained AI involving LLMs could be useful in other circumstances, but using it for writing will drag you down, especially in this age when people are craving FRESH, creative ideas.
But LLMs don't remix things in creative ways. They generate the most probable next word, which is basically the opposite of creativity.
I've done some work involving AI and data sourcing issues aside, I don't trust LLMs as they exist now for creative uses.
