I've lived in D.C. for the better part of two decades. Nearly my whole adult life. Something folks aren't talking about--a giant elephant in the room--is the amount of "brand protection" going on right now.

I don't mean fear of Trump or political persecution, although those can overlap.

And I see different results depending on which Mac I use. My work Mac displays no sponsored results while my personal looks like your article description. I’m not signed into Google on either one. Somehow work Mac is able to filter out sponsored results, and I don’t yet know how.

@gruber.foo After reading your recent story on Kagi, I tried the same Google search today. For me it shows the .gov site first (below the AI result). I wonder if Google saw the article and changed the results from your initial test. Or is it significantly different for different users?
