Winning mass working class support for trans rights is absolutely possible. Broad sympathy for trans people was turned by a handful of major newspaper and magazine editors, nazis and a few fashy feminists. Most people care about bodily autonomy and letting others find their path. We can win

There is much more to learn from LA, as many of us are endeavouring to do right now. Consider this a zine appreciate post, it is so comprehensive. If you know a resource that rivals it in detail/scope, lmk.
It goes w/o saying that much of a) has to do w/ the long work of LATU over the past decade, integrating them in neighborhoods & establishing their region-wide legitimacy. as for b) Lake Effect has 2 versions of the zine

Reading thru @scuttle_chicago's "Previous Tactics from the Fight Against ICE," it strikes me a) what's incredible about the LA movement is largely innovation in stitching tactics together thru community hubs, b) that that zine should be read by everyone wondering what to do rn.

Obviously they are serious about the hiring drive. But their Gestapo recruitment posters are goofy af. Interesting they lean into the supposed-to-be badass women images, while the suited men look dweeby. Anyway I thought the LA Times story on limits to ICE hiring was 👍

Authoritarian neoliberalism: make more people houseless, poor, surveilled, and automated out of a job, and then throw them in a hole.
25.07.2025 01:46 — 👍 249 🔁 106 💬 6 📌 4I've seen this sentiment from a few sources. There is truth to it (economic/institutional imperatives partly align university leadership interests w/ Trump), but the idea that an unpopular president lacks coercive power defies history. Unpopular presidents are short on persuasion not coercion.
24.07.2025 23:43 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Perhaps one small consolation, for the immediate future, regarding ICE transforming into a political police is that they tend to be so used to operating without due process that they don't know how to generate charges that will stick to an arrested protestor.

What is the most compelling piece of writing on the revolutionary viability of "class struggle elections" in the current era? I doubt I have many proponents of that few in my follows, but if possible I'd love to hear from supporters as much as critics if I could.

I was just looking into a review copy of Phil Neel's new book, Hellworld: The Human Species and the Planetary Factory. I thought the release date was Sept. I knew that, like all Hist Mat series, the initial hardcover would be $$$. With institutional access you can currently download the book free.

In the meantime, I am counting on extra-parlimentary organizing and social movements to be those most effectively posing the question: socialism or barbarism. We can do this best if with our critique of soc dems, we investigate, advance, and organize our own plans of action.

I would not canvas for Mamdani if I lived there, bc, like here, I would be focused on organizing with tenants. But I am sincerely excited to see what happens, call it metastrategic pragmatism.
