Reading thru @scuttle_chicago's "Previous Tactics from the Fight Against ICE," it strikes me a) what's incredible about the LA movement is largely innovation in stitching tactics together thru community hubs, b) that that zine should be read by everyone wondering what to do rn.

Forget marxology for a minute and start doing césaireology where you discuss how he never wrote colonial/imperial "boomerang" in french, he wrote "blow back" or "back lash", which has different implications.

Authoritarian neoliberalism: make more people houseless, poor, surveilled, and automated out of a job, and then throw them in a hole.

I've seen this sentiment from a few sources. There is truth to it (economic/institutional imperatives partly align university leadership interests w/ Trump), but the idea that an unpopular president lacks coercive power defies history. Unpopular presidents are short on persuasion not coercion.

Perhaps one small consolation, for the immediate future, regarding ICE transforming into a political police is that they tend to be so used to operating without due process that they don't know how to generate charges that will stick to an arrested protestor.

In the meantime, I am counting on extra-parlimentary organizing and social movements to be those most effectively posing the question: socialism or barbarism. We can do this best if with our critique of soc dems, we investigate, advance, and organize our own plans of action.

I am extremely doubtful that things will end well for a socialist Mayor of New York. I would not canvas for Mamdani if I lived there, bc, like here, I would be focused on organizing with tenants. But I am sincerely excited to see what happens, call it metastrategic pragmatism.

In the Bay, there has started to be proactive immigration court support. In TANC, efforts have been developing in both locals and through the Tenants Against Policing working group that are still crystalizing. I'm sure there is a lot more happening that I don't know about.

We need to organize to extend our networks, & we need compelling examples of how to do that. There are solid examples & experiments coming out of LA, like the Community Defense Centers and Patrols that LATU has been organizing.

Meanwhile, the militants of "the party of anarchy" as it were, we have not made clear our plans. It is not enough for all of us to join a group chat & show up when we're called for rapid response. Though we must do that.

The soc dems are having a moment again bc they appear to some, thanks to Mamdani, to have a plan to win that gives people something to do right now. But after the gen election? Perhaps they have a plan for office but the plan for movement beyond "join DSA" is opaque.

My political sympathy is with the anti-state abolitionists re: police & ICE, but I do think that some of the critiques of the soc dems we've been seeing are on the idealistic side, in that they don't raise a compelling plan of action beyond calling ppl to show up in the street.
