A light blue diagram depicting the sea, with the water's surface at the top, and just below it is an outline of the Mary Rose, with the depth (12m, 40ft or 6.7 fathoms). There is a line showing the seabed, which takes a rapid dive into the vertical...
On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,
"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

A display case in the mining gallery contains an unassuming little letter. It was sent to Percy Stanley by the management of West Cannock Colliery Company in 1933, thanking him for his rescue durinโฆ
I was cataloguing and found this great backstory about an object and wrote a quick blog.
The museum is up for closure, so I want to get some of the stories out there.
Itโs not just a piece of paper, it tells the story of our community.

It's just a mention really but I couldn't resist the opportunity to 'copy' and reprint it, I suppose that makes it a reuse, of a reuse, of a reuse ...

I used that very pamphlet image in my chapter in Ferlier & Miyamoto's 'Forms, Formats & Circulation of Knowledge' volume (Brill, 2020) as an example of the copying/piracy question, my main focus was reuse of the Bills of Mortality

On an archaeological dig in Lincoln in 2012 we found a Tazzos promotional crisp packet from the backfill of a previous excavation that took place in 1995. It's now on display in the uni with others from an even earlier dig on the same site in the 1970s!

Trouble was the dealer in question was at the other end of the country. So yes currently in storage and costing us money. And dont even get me started on his paintings...

Exactly that, even coming up with a broad estimate so I could sensibly talk to dealers took significant time. Yes one or two have some real value, but they are still not super rare so the time needed to sell them, well I simply don't have it.

It's a difficult thing. I've tried to sell my father's books, he was an artist. I estimate they are worth at least 2-3k but the only dealer interested offered ยฃ250, if I delivered them. We've decided to put book plates in them & randomly leave them in cafes etc rather than skip them
