When prioritized mechanics over graphics. Still working on a lot more mechanics, but I hope to start adding some animated sprites in today!

Loving the play on words in your titles!
20.05.2024 00:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Polishing up my game "Reborn" for another class. Here are some things I am looking forward to iterate upon:

A few people asked how I did random world generation in my most recent game "Luck or Skill." It uses a "for" statement inside another "for" statement. "if" statements and Random.Range is used to help randomly instantiate each type of cube. Below is a small snippet of the code.

My new game "Luck or Skill" is out! Test your luck/skill at this randomly generated maze. Will luck guide you out or will you have to skill your way out?!?

Snow Diorama by Loren Schmidt was quite pleasing to watch. I let the game run for a good 10 minutes to see if anything big was going to happen, but nothing happened. Nonetheless, it sort of create this somewhat soothing experience to watch, kind of like snow/leaves falling.

In "BECOME A GREAT ARTIST IN JUST 10 SECONDS", I was quite fascinated by the different type of patterns and sounds I was able to create.

Playing Pongs by Pippin Bar was trying to play ping pong in as many ways as I could possibly think. Sort of reminds me of child me trying to think of what I could do with a ball.

My new game "Reborn" is out! Check it out and let me know what you think! Available on PC/Mac/Web!

Choices in these text games are what I live for. Can't wait to see what's in store!
30.04.2024 08:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Played a bit of AI Dungeon this week and man was it interesting. I really love how the story just keep going and building onwards. Everything seemingly falls into place with each storyline or action that happens. Definitely something to check out if you haven't already!
#smallgamestudio
Also worked on text game for my narrative game course this week, in which I used Renpy to code and create my latest game "Unwanted". Renpy seems to be much easier in terms of code, which makes it a whole lot more convenient, but cater more towards a certain type of game design. #smallgamestudio
30.04.2024 06:11 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The way I've been formatting my code for my text-based has just been piles upon piles of if/else if statements. #smallgamestudio
30.04.2024 06:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Really liked your video art installation in your gallery. Some of the pieces really reminded me of some of Nam June Paik's artworks.
22.04.2024 08:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sometimes, I put codes in the wrong places and therefore go through multiple iterations of trial and error (hence the commented code). The reason why I comment out the code instead of deleting it is because I don't want to rewrite it, in case I was correct the first time.

While on the topic of itch.io page design. I wanted to also put out there some really good sizes I've used for banners and thumbnails. For thumbnail: 630 x 500. For banners: 1000x250.
#SmallGameStudio
For anyone interested, Krita's a pretty good digital drawing software you can use to create some really neat banners and make your itch.io page that much more enticing.

Sometimes I look at the Unity hierarchy and think to myself, "How am I going to organize all this mess." At the end of the day though, parenting objects is key. It is still a pain though. All these programs have so many useful interfaces, but screen space is also very limited.
#SmallGameStudio
Here's a link to a tutorial I've used. The video uses much more realistic prefabs and textures, but you can really use any to match your game aesthetics.

The Trolley is a game with a really interesting aesthetic. The models that exist in the game seem almost as if they are untextured, but at the same time the red color of the key sends this idea that maybe everything is just overshadowed by this red-ish tint.
15.04.2024 01:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0232henley has a really unique way of texturing game objects. Everything seems to exist as cubes, and yet at the same time resemble household objects.
15.04.2024 01:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Gravity Bone was ran on my laptop and when I came back, it was interesting to see how the story has progressed with each personβs play session. Kind of interesting how each person came on, observed, and continued the story. I also found a console tab in this game. Maybe there are cheats/commands?
15.04.2024 01:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Kind of confusing looking at all the gameobject colliders, but I can just imagine how much more complicated it's going to get when invisible collider triggers are implemented into the mix.
#SmallGameStudio
Sometimes Mesh colliders can be kind of hard to work with, especially with the type of game I am creating. That being said, I had to work with both mesh colliders and box colliders. For box colliders, I had to manually resize and adjust.
#smallgamestudio
Really loving the simple look! There is a saying about simplicity being the ultimate sophistication, and I definitely have been seeing a lot of posts from #smallgamestudio with this!
09.04.2024 07:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Shortcuts take a while to get used to but really do buy you a lot of time when maneuvering around Unity! I found some of my most useful shortcuts on here (very much recommended):

Taking a maya course this quarter so I went on it to create some 3D objects. Don't know if these objects will make it onto my game, but it is definitely something I want to explore as I continue making games.

The house I am working on is still very empty, but I am slowly finding more and more packages to import to fill up the contents. When working with a lot of game objects, I like to keep my hierarchy tidy by making parent objects or empty parent objects.
#SmallGameStudio
Unity has so many assets from the Unity Store to choose from. For my first build, I am working on a small home. The asset I am using is a free package from Roman Ponomarenko's Modular Building System (MBS).
