Call up your mighty dead. Consult with them. Make offerings and feed them strength. Accept their help and let their stories make you strong in turn.

This battle is not new - it is merely our turn to fight it. And, we do not fight alone...

(7) In addition to all the many good things that you are doing right now, remember your dead. Call them up and call them in if you have not already. Your line is descended of warriors. It is descended of wise ones. It is descended of witches, of spirit weavers, of magick workers of all sorts...

(6)...of the ones who lived. The ones who survived. The ones who fought the dark powers of their time and overcame those hard years strongly enough to send their light - you - into the future.

And here we are now. We honor the legacy of survival in every act, no matter how small, of resistance.

(5)... I remind myself that the same grandmother who begged for food became the first person in her family to get a college degree, then a Master's.

Your story, the story of your dead, contains these lights as well. Your story is one of heroes. We are, and always will be, the children...

(4)...The counterpoint to the shadow that our stories carry is the light - the survivors. The ones who fought back. The ones who labored to build a better world. I remind myself that my many-greats Grandfather Ezra was one of the Union officers who witnessed the first Juneteenth in Galveston, TX...

(3)... I remind myself that we lost three children during the Spanish Flu epidemic (Harriet, Martha, and Ruth). I remind myself that further back, my ancestors survived the Potato Famine. They survived the English. They survived the Vikings...

(2) ...to continuing to build the world to come.
For my part, my mind turns again and again and again to our ancestors. In every story of humanity, shadows loom: war, disease, famine, despair. I remind myself that my grandmother begged for food on the streets as a child...

So many good practitioners and thinkers of all kinds are offering excellent perspectives on the hellscape around us. On how to resist. On how to fight back. On how to turn our magick, our minds, and our wills to protecting the most vulnerable, to sending the aggressors packing... (1)

One of my own little Yule traditions: this year's Yule mead (Julbocken this time - the Yule 🐐) is in my new fermenter and merrily bubbling away. Brewing mead is a promise to the future - in this case, that we will be there to give this away to our friends and family next Yule.

(3/4) So here's my take as one of your interfaith working Pagans: what if, instead, we root into the beautiful commonality in this season? What if we look at all of these gorgeous, separately evolved cultural celebrations and experience wonder and reverence at the human spiritual DNA they reveal?

(2/4) It's been interesting watching the usual online arguments about where certain holiday traditions come from unfold, knowing this was going to post.
