Some foods are always better made at home, and I suspect #Gumbo is such a dish. Nevertheless, I'd welcome any suggestions for restaurants in the CBD, French Quarter, or Marigny that serve a decent bowl. Prefer chicken & sausage to seafood.

I've had to tell vendors on a couple of calls recently "I have no idea who will show up for this. It's Mardi Gras on Tuesday" and then also "Let's cancel that Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday call because no one, myself included, will be here".

There's also a huge monster krewe of like artists and hipsters and beautiful people and it's very fashionable and when I tell people I'm in Cryptique they always think it's that, and I'm like, no, no, we're the small crappy one that no one's heard of.

Those of you who've been keeping up with my progress have seen almost every part of my costume now and I guarantee you're still not ready for how funny it is when it's all together! I'm excited about it! Tuesday morning!

Costume update! I didn't know the word "jabot" until I had to make one. Just like the cuffs, this is my own design, the cheapest fabric I could find, and hot glue -- no sewing! There's also poster board and craft foam involved for structure. And two garbage cufflinks that came with a costume-y vest.

All right, finally got around to decorating my house for Mardi Gras.
