Why doesn’t FamilySearch make all records available? #Genealogy #FamilySearch

Boundary changes can create the biggest research challenges. When Kentucky separated from Virginia in 1792, many new counties were formed from existing ones. A person could find themselves having 'lived' in 2 states and 3 counties during that transition year without ever moving from their home.

If a business claims to be sole proprietor of a cemetery in 1910, what precisely does that mean? Are they the front, public face with exclusive rights to sell? Or do they own the land? Or, is there something I'm not considering? I'm not finding docs that helps make sense of the situation. #genealogy

It was nice to be in Chastang, Alabama this past weekend discussing Creole history and it's interelational mix with the Indigenous people of the area. This area of research is in dire need of attention.

I've been crashing by 7:30 or 8 p.m. for the last few nights. Yesterday, I spent so much time on genealogy, helping people learn how to navigate Ancestry and Familysearch, plus RootsTech, I forgot it was National Genealogy Day. So happy belated National Genealogy Day!

It's that time! The giddiness is building. This year, sunlight and placement is better.

I am pleased. I grew the collards myself and now I've learned how to cook them. They deserve a proper dish and a photo. Who knows if this will ever happen again. They are quite tasty.

I enjoy my one on one time teaching people to navigate Ancestry and Familysearch for the first time. Particularly when they have ancestry's free account and have been frustrated for a period of time. Their finding information they did not have before is the best reaction to watch. ❤️

It's a great teaching tool. When one writes a narrative, it helps one think about different facets of the subject in ways one doesn't when just searching for records.

It was quite fenced in when I was there in September. But overwhelming to think about.

I think it is such a great thing to put your own twist to. I finally talked myself into the challenge last year, after 30+ years of research, and did each one on a death certificate for a specific cemetery. It was extremely rewarding!

My special find today was the baptism record dated 1 April 1855, of my second great grandmother, Mary Platt. She would marry Thomas Neely and have seven children. She died 7 July 1892 of Typhomalarial Fever.

I'm so glad these gems made it through the big snow and deep freeze. Now, if they can make it through the cold snap this weekend, I think they'll be home free. That is, until I need to get the BT out and spray.

It has been a while since I have written anything with massive amounts of footnotes that aren't simple newspaper clippings or books. 25 years to be exact, when my comps for my M.Ed. were handwritten and sources memorized. But I am taking it on again in anticipation of applying for my BCG courses.

A favorite, blatant error in a public tree is the the princes in the tower being born in Massachusetts, USA. I wish people would slow down and think about each piece of information, where it came from, and who provided it. I stress this when assisting people with their family history.
