Below are just a few of the picturebooks I've included in the assembly overview. There are some incredible books being published at the moment, books that need to find a home in our classrooms and school libraries.

It is beginning to grow new leaves where it was chopped. Needs good light but not bright, direct sun.

It is a Jade plant. You can hard prune straggly bits, which you leave to callus over and can then repot. Should regrow from pruned parts. Could probably benefit from a repot into a gritty succulent type compost. Soil Ninja sell small bags. I recently hacked mine as it very much resembled this one.

Long-term illness is not a battle to be β€œwon” – it’s a weight to carry forever You can’t truly share in pain, or suffering; you can’t share stays in hospital, or scans, or drug treatments.

I'm not doing very well at being on all the platforms at once! But I will at least try to post my writing here. Latest column, on the loneliness of long term illness www.newstatesman.com/back-pages/2...

There seems to be fair bit of discussion at present about the breadth of the primary curriculum. A while back I wrote this on the subject, and I think it might still be relevant:

If you don't have any luck getting Oasis tickets, I've still got a few left for the Building A Classroom Reading Culture sessions I'm running next term. Happy to have Wonderwall playing in the background if that helps. www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/jon-biddle...

The great summer of discontent lead to many moving over to BlueSky. Lots have settled in. And it really does look and feel good here. Let’s hope it continues with the new term!

I have 89 survey responses, and for some reason this is a deeply unsatisfying number. Don't suppose anyone sat exams as a home educator this year and wants to answer about their experiences?

You know how some kids will have had a horrendous holiday so we don’t do β€œwhat I did in my holidays” writing any more?
Some staff will have had the same.

I used to create one in my class that had heights of tallest/ shortest person, giraffe, penguin… famous people of that era…. Would add my class to it too.
Am I being dim, but how do they know how tall Matilda etc are?

Unbelievably so - 1st hibernate scratched his way through 2 boxes. He’s really quick and escaped out of back door( high step) while my back was turned… next morning was waiting by the step. Recently broke through wire of his run( tortoise shaped hole!). Now outdoors in a reinforced dog run! 🀞

Spotify

Brilliant podcast about the experience of ADHD from Mark Steel and Shappi Korsandi. Not the usual content from this pod which is usually a satirical lefty political thing - this is a long, relaxed and insightful chat that I learned a great deal from.
