🏆 Conclusion: WAAPs starting with 2-4 puffs of salbutamol, to be repeated if necessary, would be more in line with how families actually manage symptoms while remaining effective in most situations. #Asthma #PediatricPulmonology

📈 We found WAAPs prescribing 2-4 puffs were more likely to be followed than those recommending 5-10 puffs. This suggests lower-dose recommendations may better align with families' actual practices.

✅ Despite lower doses than prescribed, 74% of episodes resolved without further intervention, and parents reported symptom improvement in 96% of cases.

🧐 While all families had WAAPs, most didn't follow them precisely. 49% used LESS salbutamol than prescribed, only 9% used more, and 42% used similar amounts to recommendations.

📊 Key finding: Most parents use just 2-4 puffs in the first 2 hours after symptoms begin (median of 3 puffs), varying by symptom type. Much less than the 10+ puffs some guidelines (especially French ones) recommend! 😮

🤔 Our rationale: Guidelines for salbutamol dosing vary widely, but we lack real-world data on how families actually administer it. We used smart inhalers 📱 to track ACTUAL usage patterns rather than relying on recall.
