I'm probably going to hate every minute of this experience. Very soon, it will be over. May it be so for every single hungry child and adult in our lifetimes.

It's a small action I'm doing together with others around the world to show solidarity and raise awareness. I hope you'll join me for any amount of time - and if fasting is not for you, maybe you can write an email, join a protest, or donate some money.

No harm will come to me from doing this. I'm going to be on a fasting-mimicking diet which will protect my body from the damage caused by actual starvation. This is very different from the reality of catastrophic hunger for so many people.

It's up to private individuals like you and me to do what we can to speak our minds, take compassionate action, and convince our governments to change course.

Political decisions by major donor countries influence funding levels for organizations like the World Food Program. Several leading nations are scaling back their contributions. Government programs are being cut and billionaires are getting wealthier.

Starvation tactics have been reported in conflicts in Yemen, Sudan and Syria. In 67 countries, today 319 million people are facing acute hunger. Even in wealthy countries, people living in poverty experience hunger and worry about how to feed themselves and their families.

I’m doing a five day fast in solidarity with people who are starving in Gaza. I am expressing my frustration and despair in the face of the Israeli government using starvation as a weapon of war while the international community passively watches.

How did they navigate? Did everyone need stacks of maps? Were drivers frequently lost? Did everyone have to understand the interstate system and use intuition to guide them? How burdensome was driving before GPS? Did drivers pay people to calculate an optimal route for them?
