IPCC models might deem it highly unlikely, but Global warming reaching +2.0Β°C next decade is much more likely when considering NASA CERES satellite observations based climate forcings and feedbacks.

We'd better assume observations are more indicative of reality than models alone:

2026 at #2 only after #1 for 2016... and we all know what a great year that was...not, but hot. Not a good start. Hot even here in Santa Cruz and zero rain to boot.

AI generated is not NECESSARILY bad. It has aggregated the thoughts of many, and probably most Meteorologists. But the question remains, are these extreme cold events directly related to the anomalous Arctic heat global warming..(?)

Did you read the recent post from Zeke Hausfather...(?) He disputes the link between global warming and extreme cold outbreaks / polar vortex breakdown ..curious on your opinion here.

The climate crisis is not a distant threat. It is already shaping our world through extreme weather, infrastructure stress, economic instability, and ecosystem collapse. Heatwaves, droughts, floods, and storms are becoming more intense and frequent.

This is an excellent book. Every government official should have it as required reading. It may not all be correct 5 years later, and I think I might know why he (sort of) reversed here, but it is a great framework of key milestones and issues that we all face.

In case you missed the news, as of January 17th, Arctic sea-ice extent once again dipped to a new record daily low, over 50,000 kmΒ² below the previous record daily low set just last year.

Polar stereographic map showing sea surface temperature anomalies in December 2025 relative to 1982 to 2010. Most areas are warmer than average. Sea-ice cover is also shown if sea-ice concentration is at least 15% per each grid point. Red is shown for warmer sea surface temperatures, and blue is shown for colder sea surface temperatures. Data is from OISSTv2.1.

Last month observed well above average sea surface temperatures in areas surrounding the Arctic Ocean. This was especially notable in the Labrador Sea near Greenland and Baltic Sea.

Line graph time series of global ocean heat content for the 0-2000 m layer for 3 year averages, yearly averages, and five years averages from the late 1950s to 2025. There is a long-term warming trend. The baseline is 1955-2006 for the zero reference to calculate the anomalies.

Earth's Energy Imbalance was over 10 Hiroshima bombs per second for the 4-year running average (showing less variability) too..

This rate of global heat uptake is impossible for us tiny humans to fathom.

In a newly published paper, we find that in 2025 human emissions of greenhouse gases added around 23 billion trillion joules of heat to the world's oceans – 39 times as much as the annual energy produced by all human activity on Earth. link.springer.com/ar...
