With this, @ofcom.bsky.social seem painfully ill-equipped to do the job it has been tasked with by Parliament.

On top of this, Ofcom has a legal obligation to ensure that the broadcasters it regulates comply with their code. A failure to identify breaches and take appropriate action against GB News would amount to a failure in fulfilling its statutory duties.

Amid a global misinformation crisis, where toxic messages can spread to millions within hours, the UK is in urgent need of a regulator that is willing and able to act robustly and with speed.

The guest was quoting a Tweet, which contained the word, and expressed disagreemment with the content.

Ofcom held them in breach under 1.14 and 2.3 (“material which may cause offence”).

2.3 is what Stop Funding Hate filed the Ofcom complaints under about the Trump interview.

So, what does it take for Ofcom to take action? Well, apparently, swearing.

In the same bulletin where they announced they reject complaints regarding the Trump interview, Ofcom found TalkTV to be in breach of broadcasting standards regarding a guest’s use of the C-swear word.

Bob Ward – Policy and Communications Director at the LSE’s Grantham Research Institute – highlighted how Ofcom’s inaction has enabled the spread of harmful climate misinformation.

Despite all of this, Ofcom has rejected complaints that claimed this interview did not meet broadcasting standards of impartiality and accuracy.

So, what has the response been to Ofcom’s decision?

All claims went unchallenged – and were even endorsed with nods – by the GB News interviewer.

@38degrees.bsky.social's campaign to get Ofcom to formally investigate the interview garnered almost 70,000 signatures.

In the GB News, Trump made various false and hateful claims including about:
🟢 Climate change (asserting that it’s a “hoax”)
🟢 London (saying the UK capital had no-go areas for the police and “sharia law”)
🟢 People with migration backgrounds (describing immigrants as “scum”)

At a time when public funds are already under pressure, this surely raises wider questions about the UK government's due diligence processes around ad spend by public bodies.

And, though it’s encouraging that they've paused ads on X, it’s vital Oak stop advertising on the toxic platform for good.

However, Oak only paused advertising *2 weeks* after first reports accusing Grok of generating non-consensual sexualised images of real people, including child sexual abuse material.

💸 With Oak being a public body sponsored by the UK’s Department of Education, this means that tens of thousands of pounds in government funds were poured into the toxic platform before they decided to pull the plug.

Responding to our FOI request, Oak have also revealed that they’ve spent £24,813.94 advertising on the toxic platform since 1 January 2025.
