Ironically, the worst way to "elevate" your brand is to use the word "elevate" in your communications.

Good to hear the user numbers on here are still going up, but still a bit demoralising that for every single person here, there are 10 who still think it's fine to support the other place.

Won't mention which book prompted it, but just wrote a note to remind ourselves that "speaking on behalf of the human race makes you sound like a pompous ass".

Weird how you never see "boring" in a brand's tone of voice document, yet that's how many of them come across in their comms.

Emotional Eddy holding a sign that reads What if your memory isn't as good as you think it is?

Remember that marketing plan meeting we had in May 2023?

No, of course you donโ€™t. Your memory clears things it deems unnecessary all the time.

As does the memory of every one of your customers.

So, if youโ€™re not doing something worth remembering, whatโ€™s the point?

Worth remembering that.

Just came across a company listing its services as "to engage and serve our valued customers with creative and tasty food solutions."

At least 4 things wrong with this, see if you can spot them.

If you say it quickly enough, no one will ever notice that you're saying leadershit team rather than leadership team.

Will make your day a little brighter every time you do it :-)

Everybody lies.

Not you, you say?

So you always read every set of Terms and Conditions when you tick that box?

Yeah, thought so.

If only there were a business networking site that emailed you 5 times a day trying to sell you services you've ignored in their previous 3,426 emails.

A really helpful feature of LI is knowing someone has been alerted to your message (because they're active on LI), but that they've chosen to completely ignore it - because they're too lazy to write, "sorry, can't help" or "sorry, not right for me" or even just "thanks, but no thanks".

29.10.2025 01:06 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The best response to "Oh, if I could just stop you there" when you're making a point you're passionate about, is to say "F*ck off, no you can't".

People who start a sentence with "of course" are saying they've already made their minds up - and so will be harder to influence.

e.g. Of course, the board will never sign off on this idea.

"It depends" is usually the right answer, but not the one that most people want to hear.

A reminder for Aussie marketers who might see our stuff that this - www.reddit.com/r/Australian... - is a thing.

Admittedly, still a very small thing. But a thing, nonetheless.

Feel free to join it and share your thoughts away from the randomness of other social channels.

Trying out being a futurlogist for the day.

In 100 years time, some things will be better. And some will be worse.

That'll be $10k please. The invoice is on the way.

"10 and 2" steering position drivers learned to drive pre the mid-1990s. It changed to "9 and 3" after that.

Why? Mandatory airbags. The old way, chances are you'll punch yourself in the face if they go off.

A good example to use against the "but weโ€™ve always done it that way" sunk cost fallacy.

Which is dumber? Futurologists, or the people who hire futurologists, without realising they're just confident-sounding guessers?

If we wanted a new website, chances are low that we'd ask some unknown person with a random gmail address who'd dropped us a clearly generic email to do the work.

The further up the corporate ladder someone climbs, the more bodies they've left in their wake to get there. Their talent is ruthlessness and nothing more than that.

Worrying that you're not doing it right is usually a sign that your're actually doing it right.

It's the ones who never worry that don't know what they're doing.
