Visited the Dugout Arcade with some buddies last night and got in some good matches in Power Instinct 5, Hyper SF2, Breakers Revenge Chicago, and Axel City 2. Also made another high score attempt at Touhou but failed to beat my high score (not that anyone else has either).

Nice catch! I know of a few text based artillery games from the early 70s, though it seems terrain features are the main thing Potshot did uniquely. Not the biggest logical leap but since I’m not aware of any other programs that did it until after the PCC write up…

As a young kid, Bunnicula and its specific mash up of horror and comedy really worked on me. But closer to 10 years old I'd point to Arthur Clarke's Childhood's End, which introduced me to the concept that a scifi/fantasy book can be weirder than I realized up to then.
