It's modern transfer, this was done at sound speed. I would recommend playing it at 75% or 50%

I'm gonna need @jay.bsky.team to point to exactly where Link violated the TOS to get suspended here. Is calling out bullshit no longer allowed?

THE MASKED MARVELS is available to watch for free, so you have a moral obligation to trick someone else into seeing it by pretending is a new MCU release.

Gale Henry made a lot of solo comedies before turning to supporting roles. I love her goofy and surreal spoofs of the then-popular action heroine genres.

But her star is likely overshadowed by Skippy, her actor dog son, aka Asta.

You have to understand that Milton Sills did brawny he-man action dramas, often quite violent.

Left is Milton Sims. Right is Milton Sills. This is extremely funny.

Also, the IMDB listing for this film claims that Milton SILLS plays Gale Henry's butler-detective pal. The actor was actually named Milton SIMS. (I have initiated a correction but it sometimes takes a few tries.)

And I am pleased to say that, thanks to copyright records, I have found Patient Zero! There was a book entitled How to Become a Detective in 1910, not long before that Solax comedy.

Now I just need a copy...

HOW TO BECOME A DETECTIVE is probably best known as a gag in SHERLOCK JR (1924) but I have found references to the gag as early as 1912, the Solax comedy BILLY THE DETECTIVE.

But was this a prop or was there a real book?

Correspondence courses and how-to books were the rage and they covered a multitude of topics, some normal and others wildly inappropriate.

Any volunteers to be the passengers of a book-educated pilot?

The Masked Marvels (1917) A Silent Film Review A pair of domestic servants dream of glamorous careers fighting crime but when their boss finds them slacking off, they find themselves out of a job and at liberty to pursue their true calling.

This week's review covers THE MASKED MARVELS (1917), a crime comedy about a cook and butler who, armed with their How to Become a Detective textbooks, try to solve a string of burglaries!

A vehicle for comedy star Gale Henry.

I only liked A Link to the Past. When they went 3D, I lost interest. Never was one for soaps, I like endings.

I, of course, refer to American television. I am extremely well-versed in British television because my parents thought it was better written (I mean, it almost always was) and would seek it out. I get all the references.

But, yes, for television references, if it wasn't Star Trek, Due South, MASH, Xena, Carol Burnett, DuckTales, Garfield and Friends, Super Mario Show or Mother Goose and Grimm, I am sorry, I can't help you.

But I had a favorite Russian composer and favorite conductor of Holst before first grade.

I have actually been catching up on classics but slowly because silent movies won't watch themselves. Saw all of The Twilight Zone and did you know that Mary Tyler Moore Show is really well-written?

I caught some Friends on a flight recently and concluded You Had to Have Been There because I was decidedly meh about it. It's not bad, just not interesting. Due South holds up, though. Yay Due South!

Oh yes, I also saw Carole Burnett and MASH during lunch with my dad.

Almost all television. We watched DuckTales and Star Trek via VHS and the local station played cliffhanger serials and Saturday morning cartoons but I have basically seen almost 0 of the famous shows. Never had cable. Briefly had multiple broadcast channels as a kid, which gave me Xena & Due South
