AI Killed My Job: Translators Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:

What this means in practice is that 14K trans people will have to quit their federal employee jobs and find jobs that cover gender affirming care.

In other words, this is a purge of trans people from the civil service.

Visa is now actively shutting down calls regarding their censorship and prohibition of the sale of legal product.

They clearly retrained their staff on how to deal with our calls. That doesn't happen unless there's critical mass.

Useful technology isn't something people are forced to use. This was one of the really interesting things I heard maybe a year ago from so many pundits. Things like "I'm trying to think of ways to use this so I become good at it." That's not how productivity tools are supposed to work.
