I did not remember that Ure covered this song. So lovely and tailored well to his style.

Santa Cruz, CA. Happy to see the sky here is truly blue. Music every day. Resist.

If the Republican Party wants to find Antifa around Portland, there are thousands of them here. And they want to know why the GOP has joined the fascists they died fighting against.

Sept 30 - a song for spooky season
"Hard Times For Dracula" by Messer Chups
Big fan of the surfabilly sound for Halloween. Happy October everyone, and thanks again David for another fun month.

No. 1
"So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" (1984)
The one I remember hearing first, on Late Night with Letterman. They planed "Driver 8", which I don't remember, and then debuted this song, well before it would be released. That, I remember. The song grabbed me then, and still holds me now.

Sept 29 - song on zombie apocalypse playlist
"Don't Touch Me There" by The Tubes (1976)
I struggled to answer this one earnestly. So, I leaned into a more campy/novelty direction for the prompt

No. 2
"Fall On Me" (1986)
Late summer 86, transitioning from high school to college, this song arrived help guide me into the great unknown.

No. 3
"(Don't Go Back To) Rockville" (1984)
More jangle-pop with a rollicking piano added for good measure. Essentially a plea, asking someone not to leave. I seemingly never get tired of this one.

Sept 28 - song with man, woman, boy or girl in title
"The Man and the Woman (The Boy and the Girl)" by The Chi-Lites
I'm a big proponent of trying to get all of the words in the title.
Here's the latest in my over a decade long journey of (mostly) monthly Mixtapes. Cheers, hope you enjoy it.

Sept 27 - good song for a bad mood
"One Day Like This" by Elbow
One of my all time feel good go to's

No. 4
"Nightswimming" (1992)
Sometimes you hear a song for the first time and it just meets you in that specific moment and matches your emotional state, being exactly what you didn't even know you needed right then. This was one of those songs for me.
If you see this, quote post a bridge

Sept 26 - song with amazing bass
"Thunder Thumbs and Lightnin' Licks" by The Brothers Johnson
In which Louis Johnson demonstrates why he has that nickname

No. 5
"Talk About The Passion" (1983)
Melancholy jangle pop at its finest. In no small part responsible for my love of that vibe.
#DavidsMonthOfMusic
Sept 25 - song featuring a string section
"Pretty Ballerina" by Left Banke
A delightful piece of 60's chamber pop.

No. 6
"Driver 8" (1985)
I was in a band once. We weren't very good. At one of our shows, we asked two of our friends to open for us (they weren't actually an act). The put together a set of acoustic covers, including this song. It's the song I most remember from that night.
Find your local event. Iโll see you in Santa Cruz.

Sept 24 - song with genre of music in title
"Classical Gas" by Mason Williams
As a kid, I loved it when this song came up on the oldies station. Unexpected anthem.

No. 7
"I Believe" (1986)
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
and change is what I believe in

Sept 23 - novelty song
"Carol Brown" by Fight of the Conchords
Love everything FotC does, but this song is just so great, working as a legitimate bittersweet pop song as well as absurdist comedy. Pure delight.

No. 8
"Radio Free Europe" (1983)
Probably the first REM song I heard, though I don't remember it as such. Reckoning was the album that got my notice, which then directed me back to this.
Underrated cut from an underrated album.

Sept 22 - song with "big" or "little" in title
"Little Bitty Big John" by Jimmy Dean (1962)
One of Dean's "Big Bad John" sequels, in which we meet the son of John.

No. 9
"It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" (1987)
God, this song sounded so amazing in 1987. I didn't love Document, and was underwhelmed by "The One I Love", but this one struck a powerful chord.

Sept 21 - every word in song title is one syllable
"Right On The Tip Of My Tongue" by Brenda & The Tabulations (1971)
#REMTop30
No. 10
"Losing My Religion" (1991)
The bands biggest U.S. Pop chart hit. A friend and I were driving down the California coast to visit his girlfriend at UCSB. The radio dj announced they were playing a brand new R.E.M. song. We were both floored, not saying a word until it was over.
Perfect. Thanks!
