Germany, EU fiscal rules and the illusion of objectivity
German defence spending risks breaking EU fiscal rules. But while the rules are presented as a technical calculation, they are less objective than it appears.
Do #Germanyโs plans to increase #defence and infrastructure risk breaking EU #FiscalRules?
Enforcement of the rules is presented as a technical calculation, but in fact it's far less objective than it appears, write @cami34.bsky.social and Vanessa Endrejat on @lseeuroppblog.bsky.social.

The new NATO spending target will hamper Europeโs innovation policy
NATO's new 5 percent defence spending pledge is unlikely to help create a more autonomous, competitive and sustainable Europe.
#NATO member states have committed to raising #defence and security-related spending from 2 to 5 per cent of GDP by 2035.
Yet @kfrenken.bsky.social argues on @lseeuroppblog.bsky.social that the proposed spending is unlikely to help create a more autonomous, competitive and sustainable Europe.

How Europe can rethink its security strategy towards Russia
EU defence spending has increased substantially since Russiaโs invasion of Ukraine. This extra spending must now be accompanied by a coherent security strategy.
The #war in #Ukraine exposed Europe as over-relying on #NATO for defence and being fragmented in terms of national defence policies.
Kamil Zwolski @sotonpolitcs.bsky.social argues the #EU needs a coherent long-term security strategy on @lseeuroppblog.bsky.socialโฌ
