I also think demanding estimates is part of Cargo Cult management: other industries use them, so we should too. On my current project, senior management decided the delivery date and functionality (enshrined in a contract) before technical people were involved. I was still asked for estimates!

Talking about _programming style_ is better than _Clean Code_. Style is partly subjective. People with good style can have different styles. Many stylistic rules are guidelines, not rigid rules. Skilled authors know when breaking the rules is good (compare with the "To boldly go..." of 'Trek) /3

I've have code reviewers rigidly demand (for example) no comments in code because "that's not clean". They've taken the Clean Code book and turned writing clean code from a skilled process, having nuance and the application of judgement, into a mere checklist. /2
