There are ethical considerations to quitting a case but it feels like begging the court to rule contempt because your client sucks does too.

This is very true, but there was also very little change afterwards, the Minnesota political establishment, many of whom like Walz, Klobuchar, Frey, etc. raced to embrace law enforcement, just like they've done with the ICE occupation

my dad wanted to support the community and get lunch (including some for me). he went to one taco shop but it was closed (because ice), so he drove to another. while this is a *very, very* small thing, understand that he is 81 and does NOT like to socialize or drive around. it's weirdly touching.

One million percent. And this is why Mpls set up neighborhood watches and block-level group chats back then: because of a sense that we were under attack, as a city, and had to protect ourselves.

That sentiment and those comms networks have been a huge part of the current organizing.

- Public defenders saw bookings, they weren't from here
- People not from here literally showed up in our streets and told us exactly where they were from+

ICE is active in south Minneapolis today-
Multiple cars cruising around East Phillips, Midtown Phillips.
Meanwhile, signal is having issues, so folks should be outside!
See ICE? Form a crowd and get loud.
Let neighbors know if ICE is nearby by making noise.

I think the story of what has happened in Minneapolis is both top-down (the incredible organizing and training work by groups like MONARCA) and bottom-up (the radicalization of a population being invaded and the latent support that provides).

It's a little myopic to focus on one without the other.

The strength of the rapid response in Minneapolis is in *both* the direct responders (commute and patrol) and the indirect response that comes at the sound of whistles and horns. ICE is operating among a population that is almost unanimously against them and socialized to be activated at any moment.

Worth noting as well that the knowledge and tactics taught at the trainings have, by this point, pretty deeply permeated among the broader public.

To some extent, wherever you go, most random passersby know what to do. People carry whistles with them, a big response can materialize out of nowhere.

Absolutely correct and (I assume everyone knows this but...) there's a huge group of people who've always been somewhere in the middle. They've gone to the big protests and done some canvassing every few years. Don't consider themselves activists, but know people who have always been In It.
