Hi everyone! Iโ€™m a planetary scientist who studied clouds on brown dwarf & exoplanet atmospheres. I left academia to start my own business, connecting my passions of science + art. I create unique multi-spectral space paintings by combining different wavelengths of light in interesting patterns. ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿก

These are as close to "spooky" drawings as I get. There's a somewhat spectral raven, a cuckoo wasp overcome by fungus, and a death's-head moth.

One of the delights locally is seeing a returning osprey population, especially as they go grocery shopping in the nearby river.

Meanwhile, dinner is Strangling (Day 5) in itsโ€™ talons. ๐Ÿชถ๐Ÿก #SciArtSeptember

An embroidery on a pale natural linen, there is the pale outline of a womanโ€™s lower legs and feet, heels together, toes apart. From the soles of the feet, thick red/orange lines coil beneath. From the big toes moving upwards, thick blue and off-white lines rise up through the inner calves and branch off at the knees. These lines coil and intertwine in a brain-like shape, and then move back down in wavy lines like a wide skirt around the ankles.

This symptomatology embroidery, neuraesthenia (2017), depicts the sensation of post-exertional malaise (PEM), the hallmark symptom of ME/CFS. PEM feels like an extreme heaviness, as if the energy system of the body is being strangled. #SciArt ๐Ÿงถ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿก

As described, this linocut on Japanese paper illustrates a terrible pun: 'Weevil weevil rock U' rather than "We will, we will rock you," of course. It shows two weevils, a grey rock and a letterpress U. The larger of these two weevils is the extravagant, long-necked red and black giraffe weevil (or giraffe-necked weevil or Trachelophorus giraffa) from Madagascar which can grow to as long as an inch or 2.5 cm in length. The smaller of these 2 is Neocoenorrhinus germanicus, a blue-black weevil, merely 3.9 mm (0.15 inches) found in Southwest Asia, southern Siberia, Russia, and parts of Europe. They are shown roughly 4 times life-sized.

The bird is shown in the typical vibrant blue, purple, yellow and green colours of this species. The background is a flat, light pink. The illustration features graphite pencil lines and digital colours.
