Arctic sea ice has melted more slowly for the past 20 years, despite global warming, a study led by @markengland.bsky.social finds.
Climate modelling suggests this is due to โnatural climate variationsโ and will be followed by faster-than-average sea ice decline.

Our recent paper @natgeosci.nature.com shows that over the Med, marine heatwaves are linked to subtropical ridges rather than atmospheric blocking, the typical cause of atmospheric heatwaves in central Europe.

During 2002-22, the Antarctic lower stratosphere cooled, a sign of decreasing ozone. A new study showed that this cooling was driven by a slowdown of the atmospheric motion that transports ozone poleward. Removing this effect showed a continued healing of the ozone layer. ๐๐งช๐ doi.org/10.1029/2025...
