Direct Air Capture (DAC) without the hot air?

Interesting calculations on the mind-boggling scales involved if plans to mechanically capture and store CO2 from the atmosphere for global climate abatement are taken seriously.

Why did 30 Met officers kick the door down at a teenage tea and biscuits meeting in a Quaker house? When six young women hired a room to discuss the war in Gaza, the gathering ended with 30 officers storming in to make arrests

Apparently this was 'intelligence-led':

"30 Metropolitan police officers, some armed with stun guns, smashed down the door of the Grade II-listed building and arrested the young women inside."

Still only roughly one sixth of Exxon's total investment expenditure, and conditional on Biden money and tax-breaks continuing.
At least 5/6ths, probably more, to be spent on high-carbon fossil processes - forwards to 2030!

And how low is 'low carbon', really?

Solar geoengineering research faces geopolitical deadlock The permissive โ€œscience firstโ€ approach has failed, but a nondeployment deal might yet enable responsible research

In a new article in Science this month www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... @olafcorry.bsky.social and I argue that the geopolitics of solar radiation modification (SRM) demands prior agreement on non-deployment to make space for well-governed research. (Abridged here, but still a long thread ... 2/33)

There is something really spooky going on at the Presidential Inauguration. Apparently, no women can enter the room where it is happening unless they are on the arm of a man, who appears to be there to guide them, as if they are unable to walk unaided. Is this the new America that Trump wants?

So will it also merit disclosure when signatories to the pro-solar geoengineering research open letters, basically arguing for speeding up research absent international governance, publish articles in Science on the subject? Perhaps that's a different matter?
Anyway, what bit do you wish to contest?

Wut? We state there was lobbying. We also mention it was mostly skeptical. We argue it would be facile *to suggest country positions were determined* by that. You disagree? *Also* we don't say scientific research wd be "useless". We argue assuming this would clear up int. disagreement is foolish.

What is anti-research about it? If anything it argues for broader spectrum and more coordinated research. But the premise is that governance (of deployment) should come first because a) it is needed and widely agreed on, 2) the evidence suggests governed research likely won't come at all without it.
