These were so wonderful to watch!

A watercolour painting by mythic artist Marja Lee, who was born in the Netherlands, worked in fashion illustration in London in the 1960s, and then lived with her British husband and family on Dartmoor for the rest of her life. The painting shows a female figure against wintry Dartmoor hills, surrounded by magical symbolism and trees.

The most magical thing!

My old friend and village neighbour Elizabeth-Jane Baldry is on Bluesky now. Follow her for folklore, harp music, fairy tale film-making, woodland keeping, and all things bookish and artful.

Our young brown spaniel on an old stone wall that marks the boundary of the woodland behind my studio. The stonework on this stretch of wall is entirely overgrown with grass, ivy, moss, and trees (including birch and oak). In late autumn, the woodland is still green, but the leaves are turning and falling.

Lottie loves to perch on the woodland's old stone boundary wall, overgrown with an ecosystem of trees, mosses and fungi. Folklore tells us that borders are traditional places of enchantment, portals to other worlds and times...but Tricksters, like our pup, are able to pass back and forth with ease.
