No one of consequence. Canadian. (Attempting to) study the Irish and Chaldean languages because I don't watch sports and have to pass the time somehow. Mostly use Blue Sky as a learning tool. Also to be an ass to celebrities and public figures.

So on the list of professionals with guns who don't know what to do when someone has a gun so far includes cops and soldiers.

America truly is the land of the brave.

You've got to be more specific as you've just described the average American.

It's the modern equivalent of starting a band.

And sitting through bands playing instruments they don't understand singing songs they wrote but don't care about is a common enough experience, I think. But at least with shitty bands you had a night out from the affair.

I've never gotten the hang of the Syriac script (also, there are 3 different ones because why not?). I want to gouge my eyes out (normally one would pull their hair out, but in the absence of hair we have to get Oedipal), but am having a masochistic kind of fun.

In 1995, Eldritch (yes, that same frontman of the Sisters of Mercy) was commissioned by Rolling Stone to interview David Bowie for his latest record 'Outside'. Last year I just stumbled upon the transcript and was really struck by this passage, which shows how visionary Bowie was. Again.

Chaldean Neo-Aramaic language and alphabet Chaldean Neo-Aramaic is an Aramaic language spoken in Israel, and formerly in Mosul and Iraqi Kurdistan in northern Iraq.

The problem of the language being written using Arabic, Hebrew, and 3 different Syriac scripts remains. Also the language being referred to with a dozen different names makes it weird. Chaldean. Aramaic. Neo-Aramaic. Suret? Assyrian? What?

I just discovered that one of my co-workers is a native speaker of an obscure and endangered language which I happen to have a textbook of, and have struggled with in the past. And now I have a native speaker volunteering to teach me. This is exciting to me.

The tragedy is that every one of these pieces is only to drum up VC investment in the concept of AI. The media turning around and calling it "news" is wildly negligent.

My city has an AI business group that was written up with glowing praise, but their plan for AI is "ask for money for AI". Ugh.

I like the Chinese version of censorship, which would honestly work perfectly here - don't ban books, because most people don't read them, but the intellectual class who does will believe they have a victory or advantage by having access to "subversive" material. Everyone wins!

But they're mirroring American right wing efforts to ban books, which tend to be explicit in their intentions. I'd like an explanation of how the government of Alberta came up with this scheme and how it isn't a Puritanical Christian culture war import.

I recently learned the phrase "pick me girl". Is there a term for politicians desperate to impress a foreign autocrat at the expense of their own people, or should we just call these two clowns "pick me premiers"?

Funnily, the United States is one of the only nations on Earth who refuses to use international accounting standards.

Honest reporting of data is not the American way.

I legitimately appreciate how the modern right and the state of the world can boil down to "self styled intellectual man can't get laid, embraces fascism".

And who would have thought a Canadian would be the head of the right wing coalition of the IDU? (That Fidesz was a member of until recently.)

She's pathetic and has no beliefs or philosophy, just a desire for cash and power. And the morons of Alberta love her as she brags about billions in surplus but enforces a strict austerity economy.

She banned all renewable energy projects. She cancelled business grants. Hell, she even cancelled oil and gas transport projects at tremendous penalties out of spite (while constantly demanding pipelines). She is a liar, a hypocrite, a traitor, a would be American, and a would-be Trump.

Danielle Smith calls on feds to diversify economic markets after Trump announces increased tariff on Canada Alberta Premier Danielle Smith issued a statement on Friday morning responding to the increased tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Canadian goods.

It's funny because Danielle Smith actively dismantled any diversification of the provinces economy because her party is wholly owned by the oil industry.

At some point the world had to figure out that American hegemony was a bad thing. I just never thought America would elect an actual crazy person who would do the work of decades in a few months.

I feel bad for Americans, but the world will be better when the tumor of America is excised.

And this won't be the last genocide we, collectively, let happen.

This is who we are as human beings. Cruel, indifferent, and cowardly.

Nothing at all is preventing you or I from becoming "inhuman" and murdered in front of an indifferent audience. Nothing.

Most of the world already recognizes the state of Palestine and is still happy to watch genocide occur. It's a moot point, really.

The Zionists have already won, will achieve their ethnic cleansing, and everyone will all be very sad in 20 years. Same as every other monstrous act.

More telling, the federal and provincial parties don't use FPP voting when holding their own elections. Canada is behind its own political parties in this practice.
