I've invested a lot into LaTeX in the last few years and didn't feel a strong desire to pivot, but I just tried @typst.app and I'm an immediate convert

The compilation speed is so nice and it's so much easier to understand

(meanwhile, there‘s a package on Universe doing it by converting the PDF to an image and the web app can convert PDFs to SVGs on upload)

For no reason at all, I moved my proposal template for manytomany.co from Apple Pages to @typst.app and it was so cool experience.

Ok, two reasons:

1. Now I can easily use LLMs to generate them 👀

2. I can store them in the repo and see the revisions.

Casually trying to recreate a document using @typst.app . It's been fun so far, and vastly more powerful out of the box than Markdown on its own

It turns out that @typst.app is absolute perfection for writing dictionaries - you can keep your dictionary data in a yaml file or whatever, and just import and manipulate the data directly in your typst file. None of the faffing around with concatenating LaTeX commands in Python I used to do

Does that mean that AI models don’t generalize as well as we were promised? 🤔

We observed the same thing with Typst: Claude and Gemini perform better with it than ChatGPT (even they though fail with most advanced questions)

I'm currently working on two applications, writing one in @typst.app while for the other I have to use a #LaTeX template. It's really highlighting the advantages of @typst.app (instant preview 🔍, clean syntax, no more blackslashes!) — and makes their absence in #LaTeX sooooo much more painful!

50/50 but it’s worth asking kindly. Maybe they have not considered Typst yet.

Two options: Either use Pandoc to translate Typst files to LaTeX or ask the organizers whether you can submit a PDF instead. Many proceedings volumes are just concatenations of the papers within, so the latter also works sometimes.

installed @typst.app locally 2 hours ago for a mid-sized report, already ended up using `#grid` + `..` to make a 3-by-3 grid of artworks, as well as a highlighted code snippet reading from a file
