Preventative care is a cornerstone of first-world innovation. The ability to detect and predict diseases, along with identifying genetic conditions early, is crucial for effectively combating adversity—not just for the disabled and chronically ill, but for society at large. Human progress is deeply intertwined with our collective ability to sustain two key pillars: quality of life and quality of education.

However, as our country relentlessly cuts funding for both healthcare and education, the message is disturbingly clear: “Let them rot.” This mindset is reflected not only in policy but also in the crumbling infrastructure, where deteriorating electrical grids and sewer systems are actively poisoning communities, particularly in rural areas. These neglected systems symbolize a larger failure to invest in the well-being of our population. How much longer can we continue to tolerate such disregard for human life?

When we look at other developed nations, we see the stark contrast. In countries like Japan, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, financial incentives encourage providers and parents to ensure children receive preventive care, such as immunizations. As a result, 80-97 percent of infants in these countries receive a broad range of recommended preventive services. In comparison, only about 50 percent of preschoolers in the United States receive such care, with even fewer getting access to necessary services. This gap is mirrored by a significant disparity in healthcare access—while nearly all children in countries like Japan and France are covered by health insurance, 14.5 percent of U.S. children remain uninsured (National Library of Medicine, 1993).

These statistics paint a troubling picture of the disparities in healthcare and preventive services. When we compare ourselves to nations that prioritize preventative care and invest in their citizens’ futures, we must ask ourselves: where is line? and what will it cost us the long run?

Approximately one in 200 people have a cavernoma. Many are present at birth, and some develop later in life, usually along with other endovascular abnormalities such as a venous malformation. Most do not have a family history of cavernomas. If you have more than one, though, we may suspect a genetic component. If you have the inherited form of cavernomas, each of your children has a 50 percent chance of inheriting the condition.

after my insurance repeatedly denied requests for MRIs, a venous cavernoma burst in my left temporal lobe (like an aneurysm). I was in a coma for three days

Las Vegas, NV
I’ve had migraines my whole life. At 43, after my insurance repeatedly denied requests for MRIs, a venous cavernoma burst in my left temporal lobe (like an aneurysm). I was in a coma for three days—doctors weren’t sure I’d wake up. When I did, I wasn’t the same. I was lucky to be alive, even luckier to be able to speak, and even more fortunate to speak correctly. A scar was left on my left temporal lobe, and now I live with epilepsy and behavioral changes. The biggest change? Now I’m always truthful, and a lot of people don’t appreciate 100% honesty in their answers, replies, and questions.
If I’d had an MRI before all this, I wouldn’t spend six hours every few months in an MRI machine. My sister is now battling her insurance for an MRI, as she’s dealing with the same migraines.

You’d think that after her sister dropping dead in the bathroom and miraculously coming back, they’d approve the MRI right away. But no—it’s like they’re just waiting to see if death can stick to one of us. I’ll be paying out of pocket for her MRI because I want her here next Christmas, without worrying that it could have been prevented.
I’m a completely different person now, and not all of it is for the better. I left my husband and moved back home. The transition from who I was to who I am now has been an uphill battle since waking up. Sometimes, I wish I had died that day, and in a way, parts of me did. I lost 10% of my brain—the burst liquified it. I don’t panic anymore; the fight-or-flight response is just fight now. It’s wildly unhealthy, so I avoid people to keep from getting aggravated. Sometimes, I even have to stop myself from dragging them face-first across my front lawn.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we look to those who have been with us in this fight and to those ready to join us. Together, we can build a healthy Black future, free from manufactured consent and unjust laws designed to suppress the people's uprising. #Generalstrikeus

You are not immune to the collapse of civilization and decency, nor will you be spared from the cruelty to come. Until we stand together against oppression—even when it doesn’t affect you—you will be left watching it unfold on your screen until it reaches your doorstep.

Since 1994, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have considered it politically risky to offer a plan to fix America's broken health care system. The American public, though, has paid the price for this silence as health care costs skyrocketed, millions went uninsured-

Building a just and inclusive society requires recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual and dismantling systems that marginalize the vulnerable. The fight for accessible, life-determining healthcare is not just a moral imperative but a necessity for collective survival and justice—5/6

This disproportionate violence reflects deeply rooted ableism embedded in society’s institutions.

Our human capability for community and self-sustainability is directly linked to our capacity to nurture and support those who contribute in ways beyond monetary means or physical labor. 4/6

In the U.S., a disabled person is deliberately killed by their caretaker (usually a family member) around once a week on average. Additionally, people with disabilities account for 30–50% of individuals who experience police use of force, despite comprising only 20% of the population.3/6

The most vulnerable groups of people in the world are children & people with disabilities. These two factions are simultaneously disregarded and egregiously exploited, subjected to systemic mistreatment at every stage of life. This begins with senseless school tardiness and absence policies that-1/6

Reparations alone will never suffice as long as true sovereignty remains out of reach. Why is our right to autonomy treated as an infringement on a mega-corporation’s ability to weaponize medicine and life-saving treatments?

Our outrage must be as powerful and relentless as the oppression we have endured—an energy transformed from indifference and apathy into radical empathy and community-driven action. As our legislators and representatives grow increasingly disconnected from the declining realities faced by their constituents, we are left shouldering a heavy responsibility: to care for, listen to, and organize with one another.
