The Hackney Pavilion closed in 1972, its last film was Carry on at your Convenience.
It was opposite the Hackney Empire and was finally demolished in 1972 and replaced by a soulless branch of Barclays Bank.

The Clapton tollgate, located on Lea Bridge Road, Hackney, was a 18th-century turnpike checkpoint on the Clapton side of the River Lea. Established to manage traffic crossing Leyton marshes, this, along with the adjacent toll house and timber bridge built around 1757, operated until 1872. The site is near the modern-day Lea Bridge roundabout.
