It’s not that she doesn’t understand she’s part of a weird, especially nasty offshoot from the global fascist movement. It’s that she understands it very well and she thinks it’s excellent, has been very obviously laughing up her sleeve about it for years.

still thinking about the Montana knife maker who said you don't have to worry about tariffs if you buy american. and then three months later, he realized he imports swedish steel and german equipment. and even MiUSA equipment costs $100k more now because of tariffs

Still from the 1941 film "Love on the Dole", with the unfortunate subtitle "She's a strange lassie's arsehole".

Catastrophic subtitling on the 1941 movie "Love on the Dole".

(It should read "She's a strange lass, is our Sal"...)

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

Being right wing is so hard bc you’re not allowed to acknowledge any actual phenomena that shape the world, so when you try to describe something you just end up sounding like if a person speaking in tongues worshipped the internet instead of god

The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988 Section 141 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 provides that any person who manufactures, sells or hires or offers for sale or hire, exposes or has in his possession for the purpose of sale or hire, or ...

this is how you end up with, by my count, 10 out of 14 of the weapons listed out in the 1988 offensive weapons act being 'ninja weapons' - www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1988/2019
(note that there's a short follow on about 'zombie knives' - again, film influence)

Right, I've dusted off the chart. From the Health for England survey.

Women feel more lonely than men.

If you're not talking about this, and you're solely focusing on the emotional feelings of men or "men getting laid" as some bald cunt said, fuck off forever.

Tommy Robinson has joined the Advance UK party led by Ben Habib

This seems to me a very implausible political project, pitching for the niche market which is OK with these three propositions at once
- Reform + Farage are too woke
- Ethnic minority leadership is OK
- Tommy Robinson is not toxic

Germany’s new willingness to lead Europe’s anti-immigration front removes one key obstacle preventing European countries from enacting policy proposals that were until recently deemed beyond the pale. Those include plans to deport migrants to third countries and to process asylum claims outside the EU, copying the U.K.’s failed Rwanda scheme, which Merz previously praised as “something we could emulate.”

Absolutely revolting that this is becoming normalized as a policy

Starmer v Starmer: why is the former human rights lawyer so cautious about defending human rights? The long read: Many of his supporters hoped the prime minister would restore the UK’s commitment to international law. Yet Labour’s record over the past year has been curiously mixed

This is quite a thoughtful piece on Starmer's ambiguity and vacillation around international human rights. Overall the picture that emerges of this man is that short-term-tactical-advantage is just an *incredibly* strong pull on his behaviour. He's unprincipled.

‘Richard Osman made £10m, but I  got £250 last year’: How much money novelists really make The big hitters of the literary world draw headlines for their book deals. But the reality of writing fiction for a living is an altogether less lucrative existence

None of this will be a surprise to writers, but an interesting overview piece about writers and money (nb the way they explain earning out/royalties is a bit off but everything else seems sound). inews.co.uk/culture/book...

Ahha! I mean, the story of the social unrest before and after the Restoration is fascinating and not the classic way that history is told, so I was wondering if I'd missed an additional youth angle in my reading.

Seems that het male teens have absolutely no concept of female desire. Like it doesn’t exist. Remembering a study that asked het male college students about their most recent sexual experience - none of them knew whether their partners actually climaxed or not. Didn’t occur to them to ask.

Japan makes so many good films, and sadly most of the live action ones are completely non-viable in the English market. Which means that this platform is absolutely priceless.

We're all here because it turns out pushing for "The right way to be a man" is as bloated and stupid as insisting there's a "right way to be a woman" and jesus, aren't we exhausted just trying to be ourselves instead of doing gender drag. Goodness.
