This is my very favorite of Ed Ruscha's Various Small Fires. A million artists have attempted to emulate/exceed... but I appreciate this for its blazing path setting.

My summer 2025 rabbit hole has consisted of discovering and enjoying these Ed Ruscha artists books like the one I'm holding in my pastey white fingers, "Nine Swimming Pools and a Broken Glass."

In fact, I pulled over to let a semi trailer pass me (it was going soooooooo fast; way more than the 65 miles per hour speed limit) and used the opportunity to take the photo above. What can I say? I want to get places fast on desolate roads, but I also don't want to die by wildlife strike.

I had a lot of time on my hands while driving, driving, driving 1,400 miles the past 4 days. One thing I pondered quite a bit on the most desolate stretches of HWY 30 in Utah - what is the nature of this thing we call a speed limit? I have one friend who treats it as a maximum. Adorable! (Not me!)

I had too many miles to drive today to stop and take terrible mountain photos so here's a photo from yesterday of a range in Nevada.

After driving 420 miles through Nevada and California today I only have two words: basin and range. Ugh, I'm over ranges for now.
