I’m excited to share a perspective that an incredible group of experts in the B cell field worked on over the past 2 years. The thoughtful conversations resulted in what we hope will be a helpful framework moving forward. An open access link is available below:

Lung-resident memory B cells maintain allergic IgE responses in the respiratory tract IgE-expressing B cells fail to form memory B cells (MBCs). Nelson etΒ al. show that inhaled allergen induces the formation of lung-resident MBCs with IgG1+ MBCs class switching to IgE driven by interleukin-4 from lung Th2 cells. Upon rechallenge, these lung-resident lymphocytes generate IgE in the airway independent of IgE in the circulation.

Anaphylaxis: Spotlight on Inflammation - Editorial in Clinical & Experimental Allergy (Jan 2025 Issue) – By Emilio NuΓ±ez- Borque | Timothy E. Dribin | Pablo Rodriguez Del Rio | Carlos A. Camargo Jr | Vanesa Esteban | George du Toit | Rodrigo JimΓ©nez-Saiz | Mattia Giovannini - https://doi.org/10.1111/cea.14610

Inflammation is the main process underlying anaphylaxis, regardless of the molecular pathway involved in the reaction. The activation of the different molecular pathways involved in the reaction results in the release of pro-inflammatory mediators, which leads to the systemic inflammation underlying symptoms and signs of anaphylaxis. Ig, Immunoglobulin; MRGPRX2, Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor member X2.
