alert! we're organizing to help folks in astronomy + planetary sciences who've lost their jobs without warning, or have important DEIA initiatives that suddenly lost funding

Applications have opened!

Come join us in Acadia to discuss what exgal paradigms are being most tested right now (and how do we move forward) alongside critical discussions in how (and who we let) do astronomy in the first place!

Please for the love of all that is good, DO NOT PREEMPTIVLEY COMPLY. If you are not a civil servant and are shutting down the resource bank, website etc. etc. you run on non-gov servers bc its DEIA related or adjacent - do not shut it down. You are literally making their jobs easier.

Poster saying "Half of Black astronomers have left, or are considering leaving, the field due to finances. Survey on Poverty in Astronomy Special Session, Tuesday, January 14, 10am in Chesapeake G/H" for #aas245

The CSMA is proud to sponsor a #aas245 special session on the results of the Astronomy Poverty Survey. The panel will report astonishing findings (like the poster below) from the survey's >1000 respondents and describe next steps. The session is Tuesday, Jan 14, at 10am! πŸ”πŸ§ͺ See you there!

Applications open January 15th, and we especially encourage applications from folks at SLACs, PUIs, HBCUs, and/or tribal colleges; graduate students and postdocs from marginalized backgrounds; and anyone who works on topics in the local Universe that have implications for early galaxy evolution.

Thanks to generous funding from the Heising-Simons Foundation and the North American ALMA Science Center, the conference will be heavily subsidized, with the majority of meals and lodging covered for participants, and some travel funding for early career astronomers.

The pre-amble!

July 28th - August 1st, 2025 in Acadia National Park, ME, USA.

We’re thrilled to announce a workshop focused on re-conceptualizing paradigms on the formation of galaxies in the first half of the Universe, and also critically inspecting and bettering our ways of doing science.

A post-doctoral fellow in astrophysics at NASA-Goddard -- I specialize in tracing the growth of super-massive blacks holes from cosmic dawn to noon, using observations across the entire EM spectrum! Looking to connect with other astro peeps on blue sky.

Q for any astro editors - why can't we use pub review built off of collaborative software or tools i.e functionality similar to suggested edits in Google docs and overleaf? We can still have a textbox for over-arching comments but it would allow for easier reviewing and responding? Pls I beg

I do alarms on my phone for the must do tasks, I set reminders, multiple alarms of the same thing going off etc. I set these notifications via Google calender bc to get both the phone alert and email (bc ya girl loses or forgets to charge her phone sometimes 🫠)

Has the field decided if we use this place for self promotion? Idk the new rules man but check out my latest submitted paper 🫠 we think we found the highest-z heavily obscured radio-loud QSO candidate via cosmos-web
