What’s the point of alternative app stores (marketplace) when Apple still decides what apps can be distributed? This is going against the DMA and Apple is only inviting more regulation and scrutiny from governments around the world.

It’s tragic what the App Store has done to the world of computing. Apple dictates what software you can run and demands a big cut of your transactions without providing any service of commensurate value in return. Worst of all, users are not allowed to know about all of this.

To grow sustainably, we’re working on a subscription model for premium features like higher-quality video uploads and profile customizations (think colors and avatar frames), but Bluesky will always be free to use. We believe information and conversation should stay accessible to everyone.

So many good choices in this space. I’ve checked out Mela, Pestle, and Crouton but I haven’t heard much about Paprika. What do you like about it?
