When I say "I have a conflict with this meeting" I do not mean that I have another meeting at the same time.

What I mean is, I take ubmrage against it. I have a feud with it on a historic scale.

Every tech update now is like: "Great news, the word processor you've relied on for twenty years has learned to juggle! Is it good at it? No! Does it help in any way? Of course not! Has it made it insufferable to use? Oh, absolutely."

Hey friends! I did a TEDx talk and it's now up on the TED Conferences YouTube. It's possibly the best and most important talk I've ever done.

I would ask that you watch it, and please SHARE it broadly and widely. Thank you! youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg #AI #Tech #TED

Enlight: Earliest known use - Old English. The earliest known use of the verb enlight is in the Old English period (pre-1150). Enlight is of multiple origins. A word inherited from Germanic; probably modelled on a Latin lexical item. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by derivation.

Delight: Earliest known use - Middle English. The earliest known use of the noun delight is in the Middle English period (1150โ€”1500). OED's earliest evidence for delight is from around 1225, in Ancrene Riwle. It is also recorded as a verb from the Middle English period (1150โ€”1500).

Delight is a borrowing from French.
Etymons: French delit, delite.

Fortunately we have etymology to tell us where words come from! According to Merriam-Webster and OED, delight is derived from the French 'deliter', while OED says enlight is probably Germanic or Latin derived. Enlight has been around longer though! English is weird and delighful :)

The word โ€œloginโ€ comes from throwing a log attached to a rope with knots overboard a ship to see how many knots go by over time (see also, knots as speed). Youโ€™d then put that info in the โ€œlog book.โ€ Youโ€™d โ€œlog inโ€ on a regular basis. This wasnโ€™t from 1959, it was likely from 1689! Etymology baby!
