I guess what I'm saying is...I'm really good at substitute teaching art, but teachers, REAL teachers, are an amazing bunch.

Hug a teacher.

Each teacher who comes into my classroom gets immediate control of the kids in a way that I haven't figured out. I only deal with each group of kids for 40 minutes at a time; they're with them all day. They know what they're doing. I can't hold a candle to what they do for 180 days of the year.

I’m really good at this.

I've found I can explain art concepts to these kids and really get them excited about it. I can relate to them and not talk down to them. I can reach them.

I'm really good at this. BUT. I'm not trained for this.

I've reached the mid-point in my long term substitute art teacher assignment and I'm still loving it. The kids are wonderful and frustrating at the same time and, if I could afford it, I'd go down the alternate route to become a teacher full-time. Because I realized something:
