Bruno injury is a blow, but ‘the don’t win without him’ narrative isn’t as bad when you look into context. Won some cup games without him against good teams. He’s only not played in four league games over the last three seasons, all tricky games. We’ll be worse, but we’ll still win games. #nufc

Difference is Isak was coming off the back of a really good season and was spoken about as one of the best strikers in the world. Tonali doesn’t have the same pull.

Only deals I think we missed out on were Guehi and Semenyo. And we could never compete for them. Only narrative is your anti Howe view on what a lack of business means. It’s more likely that the players we want aren’t available.

Okay mate. We can tackle the deals you suggested as ‘value’. Lookman, 28 years old, on massive wages. Ortega - pointless buying a stop gap on big wages. Gomes, too small for us. Malen is average and it wouldn’t have been value for us to deal with Villa. Buonanotte isn’t a Howe player.

Club don’t do January business. Haven’t for years. More likely it’s Howe’s own preference as he’s the authority figure that’s been in place all along.

It’s football. You’ll have bad windows. If there is a deal we could do that would make us stronger and they’re refusing to do it due to not wanting to give the manager more money, that’s mental. More likely that there is no value and the players they want aren’t available.

Fair argument. I’d say they would certainly have input on when to make money available. It would be an incredible bit of self harm not to spend if you think you needed to because you didn’t want to give the manager any more money. May as well get rid of him now if they think that. I doubt they do.

For what it’s worth, I think Howe will go in the summer, but I don’t think a lack of spend this month adds any more weight to that view.

And there was in the previous two years. Two years ago, we had 12 fit players and did nothing. If it was a change in the trend of our January business, you could argue the ‘they don’t want to give Howe money’ case but it’s following the trend of this ownership.
