One can make the case that the team is wound so tight that they’re paralyzed. Maybe the absence of players like Iglesias and JD Martinez who kept the atmosphere loose is a factor? Stearns gets all the blame for the starting pitching - going with those low budget options over other options is killer.

I had the thought today that they had used up two years worth of magic last year and now they’re paying the price.

2008 was bad but not unexpected. I guess you could say the same about this year. Three week-long losing streaks were a major red flag. None of this should be surprising I guess.
