I'm glad you're facing that aversion head on. Swimming is really spectacular. It frees you up to do so much more. Ocean snorkeling as far out as I can go is always a good physical test and great way to commune with nature. Scuba is next on my list of activities to learn.

Oh, to live in a place that has bodies of water to kayak around. It sounds very peaceful.

Yeah, swimming is a different level of cardio. I used to be able to run miles and miles, but then when I got into a pool, 50 meters tired me out. That's great that you're doing this. Swimming is so good for you.
