Even if they get compensated fairly for their work and deploying a game is just 1's and 0's, It still feels like really serious E-Waste to me.
I had this experience after making my first tiny game jam platformer game π
Seeing AAA games with all their massive assets and intertwined systems feels like witnessing a world wonder; it's insane how they just get pumped out and forgotten after recieving middling reviews one after another
There's this sort of amazement slash horror that washes over me every time I see an animated movie or videogame and I think about the amount of effort that had to be put just to produce a single frame

20.10.2024 18:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I built a portable Xbox.
This isn't a PC handheld, it isn't emulation, this is a real motherboard from a real Xbox. It has a 9β 480p display, pure digital video/audio, 100W USB C charge and play, and I'm currently adding WiFi 6 for wireless Xbox Live functionality.
Yes, really.
Will making the incorrect decision give you enough feedback to make a better one next time?
Does interacting with this system have long-lasting consequences? How long?
Is "restarting" fun in the context of your game/genre? Will it damage the immersion/setting?
These questions are what come to mind
I think discovering systems generally feels good, but you need to consider the effect on making 'incorrect' decisions.
Ex: I think roguelikes have a very fun "fuck around and find out" loop where you find unknown game items and interacting with them at worst leads to you just restarting the dungeon
