Moths, occasionally birds. Still a grumpy dad, still hoping to mellow with age

I don’t think you’ll have any problem exceeding that number! Unless you live in a skyscraper in central London

I think that’s a pipe dream, I’m not sure that’s possible without a huge slice of luck and a few more migrants as well

I’m looking forward to seeing those. I haven’t got round to a 2026 wish list except Crimson Speckled, which will be top for a very long time πŸ˜†

Yeah a very good year with some real silly stuff thrown in as well. Hopefully next year is just as good, even if I don’t hit the same heights of newfers 🀞🏻

I think that will be very hard, nearly everything I kind of thought should appear on the list, did! I’ll be more than happy with 30 NFG next year including mines, cases etc and then 800 in 2027.

More moth stats for your enjoyment (or not). Having had a big clean up of the records and sorted out all the dissection and leaf mine data, we have final (probably) numbers for 2025. Year list of 632 species (no aggs) with 101 NFG. Garden list now 754 with Large Wainscot as number 750 #teammoth

There is suitable ground over the road, but not what you’d call a classic habitat by any means

Having a sort out and I’ve found 6 bottles of A acetate.
I didn’t use it this year so if anyone would like a bottle or two or three please give me a shout.

It appears it’s indeed due to the white marks on the wing, and is an old named coined by Moses Harris. I agree a better name, something like the White Kidney Moth is in order.

If I get time or the inclination, I’m going to have a root around with the lure in the nearby area. I suspect the male I saw was local, and it’s almost completely absent from my part of Hants and nothing in the 10km except my record this year.

For those of you who don’t trap on holiday, you’re missing out on good moths and local rarities. All moths shown are lifers from mainland UK 2025. I nearly called this playing away from home, then I remembered the slang meaning! Moth trapping outside of the garden, is a much safer option πŸ˜† #teammoth
