why, as adults, can’t we annul our adoptions?

why are we not free to reclaim our original identities, but instead must forever remain tethered to a legal contrivance made with no possibility of our consent?

Opinion | If Only My Father Could Choose to Deny the Holocaust

β€œAt 96, my father is one of the last living Holocaust survivors. He also has Alzheimer’s. The disease has not brought him the forgetting that would be a gift to him,” Orli Peter writes in a guest essay.

πŸ₯š From the book I published in 2004 after going back to school to research why adoptee birth records were sealed. It wasn't a supernatural decreeβ€”legislators passed a law & legislators could reverse it. They haven't yet in California.

A little good news:

"Beginning this month, the Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) β€” a state and federally funded benefit for parents who adopt from foster care β€” will no longer pay for most out-of-state residential care. The children will soon be headed back to California." +

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

this is so difficult, because some of my all-time favorite books were published over the last three years. but the book i wish everyone would read, because of the perspective shift it can and does bring about, is this one: @gretchensisson.bsky.social β€˜s RELINQUISHED.

The thing about the Epstein disgustingness that strikes me hardest is that hundreds of rich old men raped underage girls and the only person currently in jail for that vile behavior is a woman.

Early childhood education is not a β€œpublic benefit”. It is a right.

Access to food and healthcare are also fundamental needs for all children.

As pediatricians, we are appalled at policies that restrict these basic needs for children in immigrant families. The chilling effect will be devastating.

Am I dreaming? PBS NewsHour had a report on the adoption industry and how it exploits vulnerable women.

Though it stops short of calling for abolition, it does a good job of bringing into view stories like those in the book "Relinquished."

The link does not seem to be available for July 10.

Shhh. Republicans are trying to repeal Obamacare again. Sort of. They’re not branding it an Obamacare repeal this time around, but congressional Republicans are pursuing cuts to programs that are part of the 15-year-old health-care law.

Here's something everybody should be paying attention to: Congressional Republicans are trying to weaken the Affordable Care Act and put millions of people at risk of losing their health care. Call your Senators and tell them we can't let that happen.
