I should post here more often, but I bet I won’t.

Just dropping a note into o the abyss here that the US paid $6 million to El Salvador to imprison 137 Venezuelans for approximately 4 months. That is significantly more expensive per person per day than it cost NYC to house them in the former Roosevelt Hotel.

I’m feeling cynical enough to wonder if that wasn’t the goal. Make up implausible stories about ICE abuses to discredit all stories about ICE abuses. I’m ultimately reserving judgment, but the thought crossed my mind.

Didn’t DHS say it was the ones without a criminal record we really have to worry about? Obviously, this octogenarian asylee must be very wily indeed. That’s why the notoriously leftist Reagan administration granted him asylum, right?

(I hate this place)

Sadly, I have no faith that SCOTUS won’t uphold this ridiculous policy, and possibly without explanation.

Incidentally, how many of these IJs have stock in private prison corporations?

Immigrants in overcapacity ICE detention say they're hungry, raise food quality concerns As the Trump administration ramps up immigration arrests, recent detainees and advocacy groups are raising concerns about food in ICE facilities nationwide.

Cut funding for social services and funnell it into these private prison companies running inhumane torture camps. It’s the american way. This isnt fiscal responsibility. It’s graft. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Also, when was Abrego Garcia ever ordered deportable, let alone twice? All I’ve seen is a bond memo denying bond, an appeal regarding that bond, and an order withholding removal. Am I missing something or is he just lying?

I keep seeing a version of this line about β€œdue process” from individuals who commit crimes, as if they are in any way analogous to a large, powerful nation with a constitution.

ICE Took His Son From Their Bronx Apartment. Now He's in El Salvador's Mega-Prison. Merwil GutiΓ©rrez had no criminal record when ICE agents detained the 19-year-old outside his home. Now his father, Wilmer, is still searching for answers.

β€œJust take him anyway,” they said. Again, it’s never really been about illegal immigration.

Email from DHS to unknown recipient, received by Nicole Micheroni

1/ I never took DHS's scary-sounding notice that I had 7 days to leave the country too seriously, because it was obviously some kind of mistake. But what about the people the emails were actually aimed at? Let's talk a bit about immigration "parole" and what Trump is doing here

The provision being used is an artifact of McCarthyism, which is among the nation’s more shameful episodes. It’s deeply unjust and should have been thrown out as unconstitutional decades ago.
