Inside 'The Tent': How Cinematic Storytelling Is Evolving Into Immersive, Spatial Narratives - ACM SIGGRAPH Blog Discover how "The Tent" bridges traditional film storytelling with AR innovation using spatial narratives, volumetric video, and photogrammetry.

Here's a Q&A up on the SIGGRAPH blog that I did in anticipation of my presentation next Monday, August 11th at 3p at SIGGRAPH Vancouver -- "New Dimensions : Translating Traditional Film and TV Storytelling into Spatial Narratives" check it out! blog.siggraph.org/2025/07/spat... #siggraph #acm #

As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

What does future tech like Augmented Reality have to do with Aristotle and the Ancient Greek Theater?

How will traditional film and TV storytelling evolve into Spatial Stories?

I'll be at SIGGRAPH next Monday, August 11th, giving a talk that ANSWERS THESE QUESTIONS WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY.

Counterpoint: Bereaved parents get to grieve their dead children however they want to. Our general discomfort or approbation or judgement doesn't begin to rank next to their loss.

โI thought America was fabulous. Take pizza for example. For years Iโ€™d been thinking, I wish someone would invent a new kind of food. In England it was always egg and chips, sausage and chips, pie and chips โ€ฆ anything and chips. After a while it just got boring, yโ€™know? But you couldnโ€™t exactly order a shaved Parmesan and rocket salad in Birmingham in the early โ€™70s. If it didnโ€™t come out of a deep-fat fryer, no one knew what the fuck it was. But then, in New York, I discovered pizza. It blew my mind wide fucking open. I would buy ten or twenty slices a day. And then, when I realized you could buy a great big pizza all for yourself, I started ordering them wherever we went. I couldnโ€™t wait to get back home and tell all my mates: โ€˜Thereโ€™s this incredible new thing. Itโ€™s American and itโ€™s called pizza. Itโ€™s like bread, but itโ€™s better than any bread youโ€™ve tasted in your life.โ€™ I even tried to recreate a New York pizza for Thelma once. I made some dough, then I got all these cans of beans and pilchards and olives and shit and put them on topโ€”it must have been about 15 quidโ€™s worth of gearโ€”but after ten minutes it just came dribbling out of the oven. It was like someone had been sick in there. Thelma just looked at it and went, โ€˜I donโ€™t think I like pizza, John.โ€™ She never called me Ozzy, my first wife.โž

Some insight into the Southern psychology is provided by the "se- cret and sacred" diaries of James H. Hammond. Like Calhoun a cotton planter and slaveholder in up-country South Carolina, Ham- mond possessed a large ego and insatiable political ambitions. But he also had insatiable sexual appetites, which threatened to cut short his political career and to destroy the marriage that had brought him his plantation and slaves. By his wife he fathered eight children. In 1839 he bought an eighteen-year-old slave, Sally, and her infant daughter Louisa. Hammond took Sally as a concubine and fathered several children by her; when Louisa reached the age of twelve, he trans- ferred his desires to her and fathered more children. Hammond kept all of his dark-skinned progeny in slavery as "their happiest earthly condition."12
During the 1830s Hammond was elected to a term in Congress. There he earned some fame for a speech that thundered awesome threats if Congress should act on petitions for the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia. If that day ever came, said Hammond, he was for "disunion, and civil war, if need be. A Revolution must ensue, and this Republic sink in blood."13
In 1842 Hammond won the governorship of South Carolina. Dur- ing his term, and for more than a year before it, he engaged in frequent sexual play with the four teenage daughters of his brother- in-law, Wade Hampton II, the largest planter in South Carolina and reputedly one of the richest men in America.

I looked at Trump's ugly new claims about Adam Schiff and the referral to DOJ for prosecution. Experts and a former IG tell me the process behind it looks highly suspect. Lots of questions about the role Trump/WH played here that demand answers.

Marc Andreessen Is a Traitor It is the tech oligarchs, not young radicals, who have turned against the system that made them.

โ€œThey have betrayed the society that enriched them, and have put us at serious risk of authoritarianism, ethnic cleansing, lawlessness, and stagnation. They have betrayed the values that made that society great, values which they apparently only ever held superficiallyโ€
