Actually, in Ireland, voting for a third party isn't throwing your vote away. You rate your candidates in order of preference and if your first choice doesn't get in, your vote goes to your second choice candidate, and so on.

I've got my new favourite way for your computer to get hacked.

The web page adds command to your clipboard (Copy) and then tries to get you to run the command on your computer under the guise of Human Verification.

Been using SumatraPDF on Windows for forever. Works perfectly.

I remember that Sky One/Movies advert for this movie. The announcer going "Nothing prepared them for a Chain Reaction" (actual movie doesn't have a title drop)

Also remember their constant ad for Terminal Velocity that seemed to show the whole movie.

Watched Chain Reaction (1996).

When it first came out, I got the sense it was an average to sub-average movie with some good bits but overall not that compelling. Now that I've finally seen it, I see my initial impression was correct

Aside from Deus Ex, Alpha Protocol had its shortcomings, but it's "your choices matter" was one of the strongest. Narrative choices affected gameplay, gameplay affected narrative choices, each major character could have a different impression of you, etc. Desperately needs rerelease

I'm a little sad because I got very little art with this design, other than @sofox.bsky.social surprising me with a very kind 3D model which I appreciate greatly but haven't done anything with, and a single commission. It's A Lot as a design, and lockdown + low funds kept me from commissioning more.

Somebody fundamentally misunderstands what due diligence is. You're meant to dive into it with the assumption that you're being lied to your face. Not just trust the damn person to tell you everything.

I'm glad this has exploded has hard has it did. Lot of resentment for asshole landlords.

I remember a few years ago, there was an article about a rerelease of a banned book. From the article, it didn't honestly seem to be that good of a book, but if it hadn't been banned I'm not sure a big article of it would have been made decades later.

Literally yesterday I was open mouthed at someone saying they hadn't watched the movie the whole way through.

It's such a fun movie that stands test of time on rewatch.

Pity about the real life satellite dish though (it also appears briefly in Contact (1997))

Yeah, really tragic how a film crew could die from shooting a film. Although, that one shot where the guy swims through stagnant water, I'm thinking "That cannot be safe... and I damn well know that's not 'movie magic' stagnant water, that's the real deal."

From what I understand, they shot a version that was more explicitly sci fi, but then lost all the footage. So they shot it again and this time skipped over a lot of the technical explanations and focused more on the experiences and atmosphere. Which I kinda like.

Whoa really? Oh, it's awesome hearing from someone who remembers visiting it back in the day.
And yeah, it was definitely part of an ecosystem. So many great sites: The Sonic Foundation, TSSZ, SFGHQ (still going) and, the site that absorbed me the most, The Moogle Cavern.
