If automation happens to be as ubiquitous and encompassing as many claim it will be, there will be a inflection point were either the masses make the economy work for all, or they will simply be wiped out.

Do not fall into the narrative that capitalism will always need the masses because it needs them as consumers.

Once the human workforce ceases to be needed because a cheaper, less rebellious and demanding came along, the masses will be both a burden and a potential danger to the prevailing system.

I often see the argument that the rise of automation will force the implementation of a UBI, because the capitalists still need the former workforce as consumers.

But what if the economy, now fully automated, changes from a mass economy to a specialized economy tailored for those capitalists?

There are plenty of examples, both current and historical, both in the US and from abroad, of protests reaching their goals, ranging from civil disobedience to open uprising. Pick your favorites.
