What I am saying is that the US government will not just use the surveillance network to restrict minors, they will lie and also use it to track people they don’t like. They already do that with the ICE deportation squads that arrest anyone they want, regardless of legality.

Also, data leaks are super common in the modern internet! I’m not sure I want my legal name and address associated with my internet history if some hacker can just steal it (and then my identity).

If they make hormone medications illegal to prescribe, then I wouldn’t be able to order them online like I could now, they would just arrest me.

If I try to organize a rally against the government, they will know exactly who I am and arrest me.

It’s the “only bad people should be worried” part that I take issue with.

I am a trans woman, and very leftist. My government (the US) would like to arrest me even though I’m a good person. If Australia makes you scan your ID to use the internet, the US might copy it, and they will track me.

Ok I’ll stop being sarcastic and just tell you: Posts supporting Gaza will be seen as too violent and become 18+ content. You are literally hurting a cause you care about by just accepting and supporting government censorship.

Anyway what I’m trying to get across here is that governments banning media *will* expand the definition of porn and adult content to be as wide as possible. I really don’t care where you live, accepting mass censorship and surveillance normalizes it and encourages other countries to follow.

It’s anecdotal, and not yet at the government level, but organizations of puritan freaks like Collective Shout (the group who convinced the payment processors) will absolutely push for bigger and more legally binding bans.

Payment processors like Mastercard and Visa are refusing to let anyone purchase any media (especially games) they deem too “adult”, including anything LGBT-friendly. They won’t admit it publicly, but several people have heard from customer service workers that queer media is part of their ban.
