A bronze plaque mounted on a large rock. The plaque contains the following text:
NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING
Since 1970, Native Americans have gathered at noon on Cole's Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native Americans do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims and other European settlers. To them, Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people, the theft of their lands, and the relentless assault on their culture. Participants in National Day of Mourning honor Native ancestors and the struggles of Native peoples to survive today. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection as well as a protest of the racism and oppression which Native Americans continue to experience. Β
Erected by the Town of Plymouth on behalf of the United American Indians of New England
Today, we recognize the National Day of Mourning and stand in solidarity with Indigenous and Native American communities. The destructive legacies of colonialism must be remembered as we fight for both labor justice and a more representative and diverse American theatre.

βAlong with good wages and access to health insurance, the biggest issue impacting our members is the cost of living. The affordability crisis is forcing artists to leave New York and they NEED access to affordable places to live. To keep working actors and stage managers in New York, we need smart public policy, like affordable artist housing. Actorsβ Equity is excited to support this bill and to help ensure New York City remains the cultural hub that incubates talent for the world.β - Brandon Lorenz, Director of Public Policy, Actors' Equity Association
